1961 Rolex Oyster Perpetual 1005 Tropical Brown Dial, Papers, and Records

0.00

Up for grabs is a Rolex Oyster Perpetual No-Date

1005 reference, 34mm, automatic

738XXX serial number circa 1961 production

This watch shows very interesting history and exceptional brown dial. According to original Rolex warranty papers, the watch was purchase at a NAVY Exchange in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba just about a week before the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. Original caseback sticker with  matching serial number survived. The original owner saved the paperwork and notes from an RSC service in 1989 where he asked for an overhaul to be performed, but also (thankfully) asked for the dial to stay original and hands, even though Rolex suggested replacement. A service warranty card is also included from that service.

Excellent vintage condition case with thick and even lugs and sharp edges. Serial and reference numbers are intact.

Original "swiss only" dial was black and has turned tropical brown in color, losing pretty much all of the black color and lacquer. Hands are original and radium, still active next to Geiger Counter. All print is very clear and damage free.

Caseback is original, stamped 1005 and II.61 inside.

Watch comes with original papers, original caseback sticker, RSC estimate and receipt, RSC warranty card, envelopes, service booklets.
